WANTED....Local 698 Shop Stewards

The Local is actively seeking members to serve as Shop Stewards. The duties and responsibilities of a shop steward are fairly simple and not terribly time consuming.

Shop Stewards are conduits of information between members and the Executive Board. They are in integral part of the communication loop and help the Executive Board keep a finger on the pulse of the organization. Shop Stewards are invited to attend Executive Board meetings (one hour, once a month via WebEx) to gain insight on what is happening in the union. Discussions have ranged from grievance updates, DASNY organizational changes, safety and health incidents, and other labor issues that affect the rights and protections of Local 698 members. Board meeting attendance is not required.

Shop Stewards are a point of contact during contract negotiations as the are part of the communication campaign to/from members. They are involved in the initial pre-negotiation meetings to assist with gaining member insight and feedback.

Shop Stewards are an essential part of our union. To be a shop steward, you must attend training (offered in every NYS region). The Local will pay for any travel expenditures related to said training. Contact Liz Moran (presidentlocal698@outlook.com) or Jim Sullivan (1stvicepresidentlocal698@gmail.com) if you are interested.
